The Mary Janes-
Originally a duo with Boatmen violist Kathy Kolata, the Mary Janes now include
drummer Mark Minnick (Crooked County), bassist Dan Hunt, and Heather Craig on
violin.
The eclectic folk/rock sound of the Mary Janes covers a range of influences from
the Carter Family to the Velvet Underground, with a heavy emphasis on simple
textures of rhythm and melody. Songs vary from fully orchestrated layers of sound
to totally stripped down tales as straightforward as light and shadow. Somewhere
in between, there lies a dance floor for rock and roll to find a two step and
take a spin...
The Mary Janes are currently negotiating for a winter release of their
full-length debut. Recording was completed with engineers Mark Maher and John Strohm at
Bloomington's Echo Park Studios.
